The Astonishing Post and The Storymatic

Remember the Oscars from a few years ago, when Glenn Hansard and Markéta Irglová from the Irish movie “Once” won the award for Best Song?

Hansard finished his little acceptance speech by saying to the billion people who were watching, “Make art! Make art! Make art!”

I’ve been thinking about that moment a lot lately. Probably because it’s getting close to Oscar time, but mostly because I’m seeing a lot of people making things with The Storymatic.

And not just making art, but encouraging other people to do so as well.

Take, for example, Nathan Weller. Nathan has a tumblr site called The Astonishing Post, which he describes as "an art & lifestyle tumble-zine that celebrates creativity, encourages artistic community, and enjoys a good cup of coffee."

Nathan’s zine is very cool, and you should check it out. It's constantly updating with art and commentary.

Because Nathan likes cultivating creative communities online, he recently launched a Storymatic-flavored project at The Astonishing Post.

Every day for the next few months, Nathan will post a photo of a few Storymatic cards...

and you can submit your responses to the prompts...

Read about how you can submit your work to The Astonishing Project.

Nathan’s mission of establishing a creative community is very much in line with my own, so here’s a little incentive for you to participate in his project:

Each month, Nathan will tally up the notes and comments each submission has received. The person who receives the most notes will get a free Storymatic!

So… Make art! Make art! Make art!
